What options do students have with purchasing computer?
Q. I am a student who will be attending Devry University this September. I would like to purchase a Dell from their website, however you must be 18 to use their financing options. I am still 17 and will not be 18 until October. What other options do I have with purchasing a computer?
Asked by Miss Lady - Tue Aug 26 13:26:23 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sorry, but having a computer costs money. See if you can muddle through the first couple of weeks without one, or pay in cash like most people have to. I hate to say it, but seriously reconsider going to Devry. They are very expensive and not taken as seriously as a good school by many employers.

How exactly do options for equity shares work?
Q. How do you calculate the spread of these options? Are you only in the money when you surpass your strike price, or can the option in and of itself appreciate in value, independent of the strike price (in the very short term, for example)? As you buy an option closer to your strike price (that is, closer to being in the money), does the spread increase? and how can you tell? As you get much farther away, does it get much cheaper? What is the best bargain (the balance between the closest and the farthest to the strike)? Thanks!

A. <<>> An adequate answer to that question would take more space than is available in this forum. I agree with the advice that Michael L gave you to go to the CBOE site learning center to get the basics. The URL is I also recommend the OIC eduation site <<>> There are mulitple types of spreads and I am not sure which one you mean. When talking about a single option "the spread" would usually mean the bid-ask spread, which is calculated by subtracting the bid price from the ask price. If you are talking about the spread between two options, you subtract the price of the lower priced option from the price of the higher priced option. << [cont.]

A. No, with paypal you know it's secure and they can't steal your money. I usually look for paypal first, then a card payment option.

What is the difference between options and futures?
Q. I'm kind of unclear about that. Options supposedly give you the right to buy an asset at a set price, while an owner of a future's contract is obligated to buy or sell. So basically if you have an option it does not seem that you have to buy. So if you don't have to buy or sell, then why is it that 80% of all option traders lose money?
Asked by mayerj72 - Thu Sep 6 20:23:52 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most option contracts written are what are called out of the money options. That is the price of the security is say $30. The option is written to buy at $32, for 3 months. If the price does not rise to $32 plus the price of the option then it looses money. Even if it is written in the money it is written at a healthy premium, so it still may loose money.

What are my options for withdrawing money from a full tilt account without requesting a check?
Q. I have made a decent amount of money on Full Tilt without ever depositing anything (I won three freerolls, $15 top prize) I would like to withdraw the money, but the only options available for withdrawal are like click2pay which isn't available for U.S. citizens and instant e checks which i know nothing about and don't trust. I've heard there is no way to withdraw directly to your checking account (using visa) so I really don't know what my options are. Any ideas?
Asked by hayley - Sat Oct 17 00:54:11 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, first off if you only won $45 than you can't even withdrawal, the minimum is $100. Also if you never deposited the only way you can withdrawal is by check. Echecks is completely safe and reliable and is the only way for U.S. players to withdrawal directly into their bank accounts but you have to make a successful deposit with them before you can withdrawal with it. If I were you I'd just keep the $45 in there and play till you hit the $100 and withdrawal by check, it usually takes less than a week. If you need anything else check out the site below and good job in the freerolls.

How are the earnings from Options trading reported to IRS by brokers?
Q. I have some earnings from trading in options on stocks in the share market. My broker has informed me that no form 1099 is issued in respect of earnings from options trading. That being so, how does the IRS know what earnings an options trader had in a given year?
Asked by xlcr - Sun Oct 7 20:57:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The IRS will not know from the brokerage firms reporting what profit you have earned from trading options. However is subsuquent years they might uncover your brokerage account statements and discover the under reporting there. A reminder you can deduct trading and financial advisory expense in certian cases. ( this expenses might offset your trading profits). Check with your tax advisor

What happens to my unvested share options if my company is bought?
Q. I have a mixture of vested and unvested share options in the company I work for. We have been approached by another company willing to buy us out and our stock has risen, so I am going to sell my vested options. What will happen to my unvested options if the company is sold? Do I lose them?
Asked by billy - Tue Feb 5 06:43:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not sure what the law says but when this happened with my company my unvested options were offered to me in either cash or new stock options in the new company, based on the date that the company announced the take over ( so NOT the current price ). So for example if they announced the take over on the 1st of Jan then they would take the share price on that date and then offer you cash for the value of your shares or if they are a PLC company then they would offer you shares to the same value. Sorry if this is wrong, but this is what happened in our case. Again, not sure is this is the law - it might not be so best to check - maybe a financial adviser could help?

What options do I have for replacing exhaust system on an older vehicle?
Q. I have a 1977 Buick Riviera. The muffler and part of the cat back pipe have rotted through and fallen off. I know I can go to a muffler shop and have an exhaust custom built, but I really don't want to spend a lot of money since I don't have it. Do I have any other options?
Asked by mach1stang - Mon Jan 19 07:42:21 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. O.E.M. replacement mufflers from your local parts store are not as expensive as you might think (replaced the muffler on my '87 Ranger for around $20). And a new tail pipe shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg at a muffler shop either. The problem with getting a used exhaust system from a junk yard is that you really don't know how long they will last.

Q. I have a relative that can no longer pay for a high mortgage payment, what options are available to avoid foreclosure? The house has been on the market for nine months but no buyers.
Asked by Badbone - Sat Jul 14 02:13:06 2007 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Don't stop making the payments yet. Have a lender review the loan and the equity and see if there is something they can do in the mean time to lower the payments. Second, see if they could rent out the house to cover the payments for now. Third, offer more commission to the selling agent. Like 5% to the selling agent. This will motivate the agents to show this house. Last step, contact the lender and see what they can do. Remember though, if the bank loses money you could be tax for the difference as income. This should be your last resort. I hope this helps you. Feel free to email me with more questions. CA Lender

What are the different options for moving a car across the country?
Q. I need to move a Toyota Camry 97 from Southern California to South Carolina (near Charleston) at the end of March. The options I've found so far are drive-away, rail, and getting it shipped. Can someone give me different company names or recommendations? Especially for transporting it by train since I'm having difficulty in finding those companies. I've spoken to about 30 different shipping companies, and for getting it shipped on a car carrier (like those for dealerships) is going to cost me around $800 - $1000, and I'm looking for a cheaper option.
Asked by questionasker - Wed Jan 24 13:11:00 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As an over the road truck driver I would take the car carrier option. Going to uhaul and renting something to tow it yourself plus the cost of gasoline and your time would probably be a lot more. Check out North American Van Lines or any other Van Line Company. Check out Schneider National. Check out National Car. Check out Swift Van Lines. Go to mymovingquote.com AA Advantage Auto transport is another. The price you have is pretty cheap counting the 2500 miles or so is only about .32 to .40 cents per mile. That is pretty cheap freight. Look around on the internet and make lots of calls. Rail takes Many, Many weeks where as trucks only take a week or so. Good luck

Asked by zetakittyrx - Fri Oct 12 01:41:31 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on the type of fracture, and just how severe it is. It also depends on whether your local vet has the knowledge and experience to be able to do the surgery, or whether your dog is going to have to see an orthopaedic specialist. As well as the surgery, your dog will need painkillers and antibiotics. Has your vet giving you an estimate of costs? The two main surgical options for femoral fractures are intramedullary pinning- where a length of metal that is inserted into the middle of the bone, or plating- where a metal plate is attached to the outside of the bone with special screws. Many regular vet clinics do not have the equipment on hand to be able to do bone plating, so have to hire this in at extra cost. Pinning is probably… [cont.]

What are options to minimize the gap between my two front teeth?
Q. I have a space between my two front teeth. It is not huge, but I want it closed a bit what are my options. Dentist said braces are a waste of money because the rest of my teeth are fine.
Asked by JW - Mon May 17 19:07:41 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If dentists advised against braces, the most conservative and least expensive solution to close a gap is to place a tooth shaded bonded composite filling on each tooth comprising the space. There is no drilling into the teeth and so this is considered reversible. Talk to your dentist about this option. Good luck.
