      • Synchronous motor, an alternating current motor distinguished by a rotor spinning with coils passing magnets at the same rate as the alternating current and resulting magnetic field which drives it
      • Induction motor, also called a squirrel-cage motor, a type of asynchronous alternating current motor where power is supplied to the rotating device by means of electromagnetic induction
    • DC motor, an electric motor that runs on direct current electricity
      • Brushed DC electric motor, an internally commutated electric motor designed to be run from a direct current power source
      • Brushless DC motor, a synchronous electric motor which is powered by direct current electricity and has an electronically controlled commutation system, instead of a mechanical commutation system based on brushes

  • Motor system, the physiological system that is responsible for physical movement
    • Motor neuron, neurons that originate in the spinal cord and synapse with muscle fibers
    • Motor skill, the ability of an organism to use the motor system effectively
  • Nanomotor, a molecular device capable of converting energy into movement
  • Pneumatic motor, a machine that converts the energy of compressed air into mechanical motion

How to disassemble footcontrol for old motorguide trolling motor?
Q. I have an old motorguide trolling motor that doesn't work. A friend gave me his working motorguide, but the switch on the foot pedal doesn't work. The switch on my broken motor does work, so I wanted to swap the switches. The switch is that one on the pedal itself that lets you pulse the motor (not the three way swich below the speed control). I am afraid to just swap the entire foot control because my old one is 12 volt and the new one is 24 volt. Also, I don't want to take apart the motor head if I can avoid it. I have taken all of the screws off of the bottom of my foot control, but it won't come apart. The base is still stuck on there. I have tried prying gently with a screwdriver, but it is definitly attached somehow. Any ideas how… [cont.]

A. Are you sure there isn't a pin that runs threw the side for the foot control. It may have one that has to be removed. It should have a clip on one end of it. Other wise, remember they are sealed to make them water proof. If that's the case. put a scraper between it and pry it gently. It most luckily has a ridge and gasket in it, that is meant to seal it water tight. Do not put a 12 volt switch on a 24 volt system. It will burn up. Good luck.

What can I do to start my outboard motor?
Q. I haven't used my outboard motor for some time and when I tried to start it the other day, it would not start. It had sat without being started for at least a month, maybe two. I can pull the cord, but the motor does nothing. It worked fine last time I used it. And, when I was done with it, I ran fresh water through it and ran the motor like I always do. I just forgot to start it up from time to time, so now I think the motor is dried up or whatever and won't start. Anyone have remedies for this?

What is the cross reference between a gas boat motor over an electric boat motor?
Q. I would like to know if I invest in a electric boat motor if I will be stranded on a windy day. Is an electric boat motor compaired to a 9.9 hp gas motor?

A. HP is an HP whether it's electric, gas diesel or steam. That's the short answer. Length of running time on charge is the limiting factor. Here are some sites that will give you some specs so you can make an informed decision
