What gauge should i use if i want to start stretching my ear lobes?
Q. After long consideration I've decided to start stretching my ear lobes. But the only problem is i don't know what gauge my ear was pierced at or what gauge i should move onto. I'm going to say that my ear was pierced at a 22. So should i move to a 16, 18, or 20 gauge?
Asked by iamcountchocula - Tue Jun 5 15:28:21 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You shouldnt stretch it too big since its your first time. I tried going bigger right away and its not the best idea. If you think your at a 22 then check out the 20's if they look like they'll fit go for an 18. And definately do it right after a really hot shower. You skin will stretch a lot better.

What gauge steel is best for medieval armor?
Q. I want to get a functional suit of armor (for various reasons). As you may know, suits of armor are incredibly expensive especially if they are wearable. I notice there are many different suits with different gauges of steel. I want the armor to absolutely be as strong as possible, I want to be able to hit it with the claw of a hammer and have the armor be untouched. What is the best gauge?
Asked by Donc je suis - Wed Jun 10 01:53:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 14 and 12(2.0mm) are best I would go for the 12 with what you want to do, it probably wouldn't remain untouched with a good hit, but you don't want it too heavy. for my armour I wouldn't use anything less that 14(1.6mm) but you could get away with 16 (1.2mm) but it wouldn't be up for heavy punishment.

How do I stretch an 18 gauge to a 14 or 12 gauge? Is a 12 gauge permanent or does it heal up completely?
Q. I currently have regular 18 gauge piercings and want to put a 14 or 12 gauge plug in them...how should I do this and is it permanent or will it heal up completely with no marks when I decide to take them out?
Asked by Davy Jones - Wed Jun 4 05:17:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 00 gauge is the point of no return to stretch your ear use the taping method there's a special kind of tape you can get at any hardware store, every few days wrap the tape around the plug you currently have until you stretch it to your desired size the taping method doesn't cause scar tissue or tearing, so it's the best and safest way to stretch your ears it isn't permanent, like i said if you go to a 00 which is big, that's the point where it won't close back and you would have to get surgery DON'T use tapers that's the easiest way to get scar tissue and everything, and don't stretch too fast allow healing before stretching bigger

What type of gauge can be put into a water path to measure exit pressure?
Q. I am doing a six sigma project at work, and I need to verify exit water pressure. The water exits two acrylic nozzles (.250" in diameter), and I would like to find some type of gauge that will measure the exit water pressure. To calculate it mathematically would be to difficult. The number of variables that would need to be measured would be to large. However, I have the hypothetical gauge in my mind that has a wheel of some sort that when placed into a water path will spin and tell what the exit water pressure/speed/force etc. Need some help with this.
Asked by savmitch1 - Wed Oct 3 15:25:26 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Since you are dealing with water, which is non-compressible, exit water pressure is equal to the pressure of the container it exits to. If it is exiting out to atmosphere, the exit water pressure is atmospheric. If you want to find the pressure of the water before the nozzle(s), fit on a pressure gauge in your line. That shouldn't be too hard. Just find out the source pressure (tap water? approx. 25-40 psi I think) and drop a few pounds due to line losses. You don't have to put a gauge in the water path, as pressure acts on all surfaces equally. If you do a finite element analysis of the piping to the nozzle, it'll become apparent. A gauge near the nozzles should be adequate for your application.

A. About a 2 gauge. But then again, you can go to 0 and 00 and it will get to about a 16g.

What does an 8 gauge piercing look like without the earring in it?
Q. I want to get my ears gauged to about an 8, but if I have to take it out for work will it be extremely noticeable? Does anyone have pictures of their 8 gauge piercing?
Asked by k_train_21 - Sun Feb 24 19:56:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Usually 8g piercings look like slightly stretched ear piercings without jewelry. Think of a regular ear piercing, how it makes that little round hole. Now imagine it slightly larger. An 8g stretch isn't going to just hang there completely open to full size unless you had it punched out at that size which is unlikely or you have particularly thin, dangly ears which is also unlikely. People may notice it and ask you what happened to your ears, but its not going to be a case of people being able to look right through your lobe with no jewelry in place. It will just look like something a little strange happened to your regular ear piercings. If you stop wearing 8g jewelry all together, odds are your piercing will close up more in a few… [cont.]

A. all depends on your ear as to what size they used. shouldnt even think about changing it yet. just go into the place you got it done at and ask what size it is...people generally leave their original bar in for about 6 months

How can I adjust the fuel gauge on an oil tank?
Q. The fuel gauge for my oil tank, a Granby, is off by about 1/4 of a tank. Everytime the oil company comes to fill it, the gauge stops at a little over 3/4 of a tank; and, yes, I can do the math and realize that when it's near "E", there's really only 1/4 tank left of oil. BUT, I still want to adjust it. Is this something I can do myself, and if so how, or should I just have the oil company do it? Oh, the guage is on top of the tank. It's a glass tube with a disc attached to the top of a tiny rod inside that gradually lowers as the oil is depleted.

What is the gauge of a cartilage piercing?
Q. I lost my captive bead ring, but it's been so long from when I got my cartilage pierced that I forgot the general gauge size for the piercing. Anyone know? Thanks very much. Just a note-- regular stud earrings fit fine in the piercing, and they're just about the right size. Helpful detail?

A. Regular earring stud are eiterh 22G or 20G. Usually depending on the piercer a cartilage piercing can be a 20G-18G or 16G. I would suggest an 18G , an 18G piercing can fit a 20G or 22G earring also.

How do I fix the gas gauge on my explorer?
Q. I just bought a 95 Ford Explorer, standard transmission, and all the gauges work except for the gas gauge, it just stays at nothing. What do I do to fix it and about how much should someone charge to fix it if I dont do it myself?
Asked by Randomer Light - Sun Jul 30 20:27:48 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would be most likely to fault the sending unit in the tank. The float may be stuck in the down position, or just a unit that is not sending the correct resistance value to the gauge. Your dealer will have the proper variable resistance tester to hook to the gauge wiring to test whether the gauge is actually bad or not receiving the proper signal from the sending unit.

Is there a standard gauge used for a labret piercing?
Q. I'm thinking of getting my labret pierced. I was wondering, and I've been searching all over, if there is a standard gague that a piercer uses for a labret piercing, or if you can tell them that you want a small gauge, which I do. Thanks a lot. : ) And please do not waste my time with an answer that has nothing to do with my question, thanks again. Forgive me for placing my recent questions in "Tattoos", I figured if I place them here, I'll get people to answer that actually know about the subjectt! : ) Thanks!

A. Standard that I use is a 16 gauge, but you could go bigger if you want. Anything smaller then that, and you would have a problem with migration (you body would essentially push the jewelry out). Make sure that you go to a reputable piercer! Good luck, you will love your new piercing!!

What is the best electric guitar string gauge for solos and what adjustments to the neck and bridge are best?
Q. I am curious, what is the best string gauge for solos? Also, how do you adjust your neck or bridge to accommodate for the string gauge.. meaning how do you know which adjustments are going to be best?
Asked by Patrick S - Sat Feb 9 14:38:08 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I use Earnie ball regulars. The high E starts at .10. I wouldn't go with anything lighter that .09 because you'll get weaker sound and it tends to not stay in tune as well. Most great soloists play .09 to even .11. Work slowly when changing the action at the bridge to get it just right before it starts to buzz and check the neck for straightness, as well as intonation by moving the individual saddle pieces forward or back to get the 12th fret in tune with the open. Go to wikipedia or Google for further explanations on intonation, guitar action, and truss rod on neck. P.S. Remember, don't buy anything less than .09 if you want to keep a great sound.

How do I hook up a 4 gauge wire to a terminal on an Alpine amp?
Q. My amp kicks 500w. I have a wiring kit that came with a 4 gauge wire for positive and ground terminals. The wire holds over 1000w, however the 4g is tooo big for the terminal. Any suggestions I could do with the wire to make it fit? If not, should I get a 8 gauge wire instead of 4? Also, if I split the wire and only use a minority of it in the terminal, will it still power correctly and work?
Asked by fang gallo - Mon Oct 5 20:28:55 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. get a reducer. or make one your self.. get a terminal connector and cut one of the two prongs.. then just hook it up to the amp.. if your amp has a terminal with the allen screw then all you do is peel off the wire and unbraid it, cut off half of it and it'll be reduced..since your wire might be too thick make sure there is no bare wire touching the negative terminal on your amp..electrical tape can help..

Asked by Mlok - Tue Nov 3 12:47:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if you want your ears to close up eventually, you shouldnt be stretching them at all (its called stretching, not gauging) and there is no way of answering this. i know people who are at a size 2, can take out their jewelery, and within a day they cant get it back in because their ear has shrank back down. but then i know other people who can get to a size 12, take it out for months, and then can put it back in like the jewelery was never even removed. everyones ears have a different breaking point.

What gauge pressure must the pump develop for there to be any flow at all?
Q. Gauge Pressure Question? Not having much luck at all with this one. Water is to be pumped through a 10.6 cm diameter pipe over a distance of 285 m. The far end of the pipe is 21.1 m above the pump and is at normal atmospheric pressure. What gauge pressure must the pump develop for there to be any flow at all?
Asked by Goodyear - Mon Mar 9 07:57:07 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it is a straight with no friction, then it is true that the pump will pump at 21.1 m head that is 30.003 571 353 pound/square inch pressure. [21.1 meter of head = 2.109 459 825 9 kilogram-force/square centimeter ] But in practical, you have to consider head loss due to friction through the piping network. Head loss due to friction =friction factor x length of pipe x velocity^2 ] / [2 x g x diameter of the pipe] Here, you have to consider the equivalent length of pipe , that is considering all pipe fittings [ elbow, tee, valves, reducers , etc ] Some of the formula you may find useful : 1.Pressure= rho* g * head Pressure = 1000 * 9.81 * 21.1 [ kg/m^3 * m/sec^2 * m] Pressure = 206991 kg sec^(-2) m^(-1) Pressure = 206991… [cont.]
