How can I clean leather jackets and pants without going to dry cleaners?
Q. I have a bunch of leather coats, pants, ect, mostly black, some brown, a few sand/tan, and one pink, some have smooth surface, some have the fuzzy surface. I would like to clean them but I don't want to take them to dry cleaners. Are there things I can buy to clean them myself? I heard there is some kind of home-dry-clean thing that you put in the dryer with the clothes that need to be dry cleaned, and that when it is done, the clothes are dry cleaned. Is there something out there that would allow people to clean leather at home, either in the dryer or by hand? Is it bad for the health, if it is some chemical? Also, what is the leather conditioner? And how does it work? Can it be done at home? Where to get it? Lastly, how do they… [cont.]

A. you got to take the leather and roll it up in a ball. then gently massage it while you watch some toob. this gets it all loosened up. then when you get some sweat flowing, put some of those oils on there and let it soak it up.

What cleaning techniques do you use to clean your carpets?
Q. I am trying to clean the carpets and keep them clean. Seems like I clean and the spot just keeps coming right back. I am using a carpet cleaner.
Asked by Erica S - Wed Jan 3 01:58:49 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. most any sort of carpet shampoos will attract dirt back to the area you cleaned, try to do it with just water first or white vinegar. be sure to get it as dry as possible, put a white towel over it so if anyone walks on it while damp it will transfer dirt to the towel instead of the carpet, see if that keeps the dirt from returning as fast.

How do you clean a cotton candy maker?
Q. I bought Seville's Cotton Candy Maker today and tried making cotton candy as soon as I got home. It was fun. However, when it comes to cleaning, I was hell. The box said "easy to clean". Unfortunately, the manual/instruction/guide got lost in the store display so I didn't get one, and it was the last unit in the store and I didn't know where else to get it. I managed to clean the outer bowls, no problem, but how do I clean the spinner? the the place where you place the sugar--it has the most sugar residue and I can't remove it from the machine unit...How do I clean this machine?
Asked by Stef_obi - Thu Dec 20 11:16:15 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would assume some really hot water would do the trick. Hot water melts sugar and it's safe to use on food-service machines. Other than that, there might be some kind of sanitizing liquid you are supposed to pour in there, but maybe try the website of the company that makes the thing for that.

Can you clean a Dish Towels in a Dishwasher?
Q. My husband consistantly places dirty dish towels in the dishwasher to clean them. While he is loading the dishwasher, he will place soiled dish towels on the top rack (sometimes bottom rack) to get clean. I am convinced the washing machine would be a more appropriate (you know, with a cleaning detergent for fabric like "Tide" or "Cheer"), but he maintains that this does clean the towels. Please tell me that he is not correct. Any evidence to support you stance would be appreciated.

A. It probably does clean the towels the way he does it, however there are some problems with this method. 1. It's not energy efficient and quite silly. 2. Putting towels in the dishwasher could impede water flow to the other dishes. 3. Towels don't get scrubbed in the dishwasher like they would a clothes washer, they get half @ss soaked. 4 The towel(s) could trap food particles that are washed off of dishes. 5. You can't fit anywhere near as many towels in a dishwasher as you can a clothes washer. 6. Lint fibers that come off the towels might eventually clog the pump of the dishwasher. A dishwasher has no lint filter, they have food filters and food disposers 7. Even if you washed a full load of towels in a dishwasher the… [cont.]

How clean do you rinse and clean your rice before cooking?
Q. This goes for all the asians. How clean are you supposed to clean and rinse the rice? Is it bad if you rinse it too much till the water is clear instead of cloudy?
Asked by estheticcore - Thu Jan 15 23:06:49 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I am Asian and I use real rice from 50 lb. bag I buy once a month from Asian store. I have never met an Asian who uses instant rice (my American mother-in-law had it in her cupboard and I tried it once and I have to say I will never, ever do that again, gosh it was bad!) so I believe you are talking of my kind of rice, right? It is not bad to rinse it too much till the water is clear, if that is what you prefer. This is how I rinse my rice. I put the rice in the pot I intend to cook it in and then I fill up the pot with water. I swoosh the rice around a couple of times with my fingers and then I let the whole pot stand for five seconds until the water in the pot calms down. When the water is calm I know that all the rice has settled… [cont.]

Asked by FMJ - Sun Apr 22 13:25:21 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on the company for one. If you're going with a company like Thrifty Maid or the likes of, you're probably looking at a minimum of 3 people in the house. A private cleaner is usually 1-2 depending on what you want done. And that ties into your cost. You can have someone come in and just do a 'surface' cleaning or you can have someone come in and do a detailed cleaning. I worked for a lady that does detail only and she charges $30 an hour (Colorado) and will bring in an additional person so it's more like $60 an hour but, they do DETAIL...baseboards, cabinets, picture frames and all the little stuff plus the big stuff each time. I worked for a lady that did pretty much surface only and she charged like half that (Florida). She… [cont.]

Asked by cheesehead - Tue Jun 17 14:55:17 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Using household products and 'old wives' remedies are very short sighted when it comes to cleaning and caring for leather and can become very costly in the long run as problems they generally cause will be costly to put right. (although it does keep people like ourselves busy as we rush round fixing problems caused by using the wrong things!!!) You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. (LTT Ultra Foam) With light coloured leather dye transfer from clothing can be a problem although using a good quality leather protector (LTT Ultra Protect) will help inhibit this. do not use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish (pledge) contains silicones… [cont.]

How to clean the blue stains from the "2000 Flushes" Blue and Bleach automatic toilet bown cleaner?
Q. I bought those blue tablets that you put inside your toilet water tank, so whenever you flush, the blue coloring comes out. I tried to clean it, but the blue stain won't come off. Does anyone know what to use to remove this blue stain off the toilet seat cover (or anything that's not ceramic) ?

A. Barkeepers Friend in the cleaning aisle by the comet in a gold canister. Wet the area, sprinkle with friend and scrub with tooth brush. Alternatively, you can make a paste using water and scrub it into spots with the tooth brush or 3m scrubber such as scotch brite or dobie. I have yet to see the surface this stuff does not clean. It even got the kool-aid stains out of the formica countertops without harming the surface, and rust and deep down stains out of my porcelain sinks..

A. Clean it really well once over, take a LONG time just putting everything EXACTLY where it goes. And when it's spic and span, become a responsible person! Seriously, that's the only way to actually "keep" your room clean. Learn to pick up after yourself rather than cleaning once a week. And don't keep things around that will just end up in the garbage.

Asked by zealous - Mon Apr 28 03:00:58 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is a powder cleaning product called TSP, that you can purchase at any hardware store. Follow the directions on the box. Buy the primer KILZ. After the walls are completely dry, paint them with the Kilz. Then apply a water based enamel paint. Never use a latex paint in the bathroom because moisture gets under it and it starts to bubble and pull away from the wall. All bleach does is change the color of the dirt and sterilize it.
