How do I judge 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water for my tomato plants?
Q. I've read that my tomato plants need 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water every week. How do I measure this? I live in So Cal so the only water these plants get is the water I put on them. I want to make sure I'm not over watering.
Asked by WESLEY V - Thu Jun 21 14:21:01 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's not necessary to try and measure the water amount. Just give them a good drink once a week and you will be fine. They are not that finicky. They will let you know if you've given them too much by splitting the fruit. If that happens just cut back on the amount of water you give them.

What is the current 1 year treasury rate and where do you find that information?
Q. I have an account that states the interest rate is equal to the 1 year treasury + 1 percent. It was "about 6 percent" in July 07 when I got this information. So I was looking for the current 1 year treasury rate, but can't really nail it down.

What's the difference between Algebra 1 and Algebra 1A?
Q. I have been in home school for a year and a half and I'm in 11th grade. I am planning on going back to regular high school for my senior year. The school I wan't to go to you must finish 1 year of Algebra 1 and geometry in order to graduate. I have already finished a year of Algebra 1A. So I was wondering what the difference between Algebra 1 and Algebra 1A is.

A. One of them is more watered down and moves at a slower pace "Alg. 1 A." and you also learn the basics of alg. 1 in alg. A!!

What's the difference between algebra 1 and algebra 2?
Q. I took algebra 1 last year, and this year I borrowed an algebra 2 textbook from my teacher to better prepare for next year. However, after flipping through the whole book, I found it to be the same as algebra 1. Is algebra 2 just reviewing algebra 1? I though there would be many new things to learn, but it seems like everything in algebra 2 I already learned last year.

A. Algebra 1, as I understand it, is like "Basic (High school / advanced) Algebra. Algebra 2 is the start of College Algebra. You will definitely notice a difference as the course goes on.

What's the difference between 1 gap and 2 gap schemes in football?
Q. I heard something on TV about 1 gap and 2 gap schemes and how the Jacksonville Jaguars use the 1 gap scheme while teams like the Falcons use the 2 gap scheme on defense. I was wondering what they were and what's the difference. The only thing I know is that 1 gap schemes allow the DT to have more chances to make plays while 2 gap schemes require the DT to take on blockers. But what exactly is the difference and definition? Thanks

Asked by Bobbi - Mon Nov 19 19:17:12 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This really depends on the type of disability. Blind people need different accomodations than do those who use a wheelchair. I recently spent 3 months in a wheelchair, and I must say that it opened my eyes to the number of barriers that our disabled friends face on a daily basis. In our town, the sidewalks are so cracked that I was nearly pitched out of the wheelchair several times when my husband was pushing my chair. Our office is supposedly ADA compliant, yet I couldn't get my wheelchair into the bathroom. If you have a differently-abled employee, ask them to give you open and honest feedback about what they need in order to operate comfortably in your workplace.

What size shoe does your 1 year old girl wear and where to buy?
Q. My 12 month old has miniature feet--size 1 1/2 or 2. The problem is either that toddler shoes don't come in this size or if they do, they are for non-walking infants. What size shoe does your 1 year old wear and where do I find size 2 walking shoes?
Asked by Michele T - Sun Feb 10 17:06:41 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. wow i thought i was the only one with truely little feet in the house, lol. honestly walmart does have a good shoe that comes in a size 2. it's a flexible sole and very sturdy for wobbling feet. not like the crib shoes you find in other stores for much more money. we even looked into nike's and found the soles on this small of shoe did not bend at all, making walking difficult for my daughter. she wore her walmart shoes just fine until she finally grew into a size 3 and 4. which was about 16 months. she's 2 now and still only wears a size 4-5, possibly a 6 depending on who makes them. also converse makes a size 2, you can order it online, or i found ebay to be a great place for little feet. most kids are not walking in a size 2- [cont.]

Can 1/2hp garage door openers open a 2 car garage door without spring?
Q. Can 1/2hp garage door openers open a 2 car garage door without spring? One side of the wire on my garage door broke, right now the door is crooked. If I cut the remain wire, the door will not be sprung, will the garage door opener still have enough power to open it? This is just temp solution until I can get it fixed, but I need to know before I cut. Thanks. What I had to do last night was, I losened the bolt that was holding the wheel that was winding the wire, it released the spring's energy, then I just manually opened the door with a buddy. I'm going to hire a professional to fix it and wind it back to the proper tension though.
Asked by xvl260 - Thu Sep 20 02:32:36 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. NO! Don't cut the remaining wire!. If you have individual side springs you have a fair chance of raising the door by giving it some manual lift assistance on the broken side. BUT- if your spring is a torsion rod that mounts horizontally on the wall right above the door I would have to advise you to please not attempt any action yourself, but contact an overhead door serviceman. Those torsion bar springs are LOADED with energy waiting to be released from the counter-wound springs and can be extremely dangerous when out of balance or suddenly released. With one half of the spring gone, this places abnormal overload on the remaining half, and without wanting to seem alarmist this does greatly raise the odds any jolting/erratic motion will be… [cont.]

Asked by christian - Sat May 9 13:14:50 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'd indeed need to find your particular block and calculate it. If you can get someone to drive it in a car, you can use the odometer to estimate. Keep in mind if they're on the road and you're on an inside loop on the sidewalk, you're running a little shorter than the car measures. You can go to a mapping service like Mapquest and keep entering addresses like you would for directions, or in some places you can drag markers around on a route, and you can see what it says distances are.

What is the probability that at least 1 of 2 will occur?
Q. I am doing a problem for statistics class that deals with the following question: What is the probability that at least 1 of 2 randomly selected batteries will be rejected by plan A? I have already determined that the probability of 1 battery being rejected is 2.5%, so would would it be for at least 1 of 2? Would you just to 2.5%^2, or is there a different procedure for "at least"? Thanks. @SV... So basically I would add the probability of those two instances? The probability of 1 would be 2.5%, and the probability of 2 would be 2.5%^2, so the answer would come out to: 8.75% Is this correct? I recommend everyone check out this answer, it helped me the most, especially zantu3's solution:
Asked by tdude51 - Wed Oct 3 18:33:51 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The probability that at least one is rejected is: Pr[first is rejected] + Pr[second is rejected] - Pr[both are rejected] 0.025 + 0.025 - 0.025^2 = 0.049375 = 4.9375% The reason we have to subtract off Pr[both are rejected] is because it is counted in Pr[first is rejected] and in Pr[second is rejected].

Asked by Joshua N - Sun May 18 10:18:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A common approach to this sort of problem is to use the statistical standard deviation as a measure of data spread. This approach assumes that the errors are a random spread. The mean of the data is given by: - x(mean) = x1 + x2 + x3 + ... + xn ...___ ...n Where each of the x's are measured data points for the n recorded measurements. The standard deviation is given by: - = ( (xi - x(mean))/(n-1)) Where means the sum of and the xi's are the individual data points. However, with systematic errors e1, e2, ... en (those errors due to calculations or measuring procedures). The resultant error E is given by: - E = (e1 + e2 + e3 + ... + en ) This resultant error may be expressed as a percentage + or - error on the mean… [cont.]

How do you show just 1 carbon atom using skeletal forumla?
Q. If you are to draw 1 line, that would mean a carbon atom at each end, yes? So you do you just show 1 carbon atom? Thanks in advance for any help. Also if anyone can point me in a direction for some good AS/A-level chemistry help sites, I would be greatly appreciative. Cheers again.
Asked by John Dorian - Mon Dec 15 14:13:52 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Simple answer is you wouldn't because skeletal formula is usually for structural representation and there is no structure to a single carbon atom, also without any hydrogen atoms it's not an organic molecule so would not use skeletal formula. But that aside tecnically i suppose it would be a dot with 4 negative charge signes around it. I used for my chemistry A level and it was really good at explaining things.

Whats the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2?
Q. Hi everyone. My boss just found out her 16 year old daughter has type 1 diabetes. We were all very sad to hear the news. Apparently she will be taking medication everyday for the rest of her life and she has a strict diet to follow. What's the difference between type 1 and type 2? Also, do people with diabetes have a tendency to be thin and lose a lot of weight because of their diet? Apparently before she was diagnosed, she lost 10 pounds within a month. Thanks!
Asked by Yo... - Wed Jul 16 09:39:16 2008 - - 12 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Type one is usually diagnosed early in life, from birth to around the age of 30. There are many theories on why and what happens to the pancreas in type 1. It is thought to be a viruse that attacks it at some point. There are more cases of type 1 in states that have cold weather. These people are always insulin dependent and must inject insulin sometimes up to 6 times a day. The pancreas does not make any (or very little) insulin. In type 2, it is usually diagnosed after the age of 35, but can develop earlier. With this type there are 2 things that can happen. The pancreas can be making lots of insulin but the body is not using it correctly (this is insulin resistance) or the pancreas is not making enough insulin. People with type 2… [cont.]

A. Ok.. i did that wrong... go here after you read the first part of bipolar 1, then keep clicking next article... Bipolar I Disorder is not a complete diagnosis in and of itself. When someone is diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, the doctor uses what are called specifiers to give more information about the patient s current condition. Specifiers describe the mood episode and severity of the illness that the patient is experiencing. If the person most recently experienced a hypomanic episode, often no further specifiers are given. Hypomania is by definition, a mild manic episode with no psychotic features. Therefore, it would be redundant to specify the severity of the symptoms and the presence of psychotic features.
